Geometric Nail Art

Now that I have the feeling that I am getting the hang of this nail art stuff I decided to try something a bit more complicated, I am by no means a pro but I am proud of these babies.
I was inspired by a YouTube tutorial by RobinMoses. I changed it up a bit just to make it mine. I used Color Club Worth The Risque for a base and then using acrylic paint mixed up a grey for the squares. After that was done I used black and white acrylic to add lines until I had a design I was happy with.

NYX Girls Dorothy

I have a new favorite. I was loving China Glaze Ruby Pumps last year, it was my go to polish for fall and winter. I do still love Ruby Pumps and will certainly wear it again, the larger hex glitter in Dorothy just gives it a bit more depth although it does not sparkle quite as brightly. I put Dorothy over Kleancolor Chunky Holo Scarlett and this was the result. I can't wait to see what this is gonna look like over Ruby Pumps, I should have tried that first!

Revlon Facets of Fuchsia & Kleancolor Born to the Purple

I seem to be going through a bit of a glitter phase, I LOVE IT!! Sparkly, shimmery flashy goodness! This time around I put on Revlon Facets of Fuchsia and it is a beautiful polish but since I'm in a glitter phase I wanted something a bit blingier, enter Kleancolor Born to the Purple.
This was a perfect match for Facets of Fuchsia, gave it just a bit more bling!
As for application I wish that the Revlon had had just a bit more glitter in there but it went on nicely. Kleancolor chunky glitter polishes are all basically the same great glitter with so so application. Glitter tends to cling to the brush and land on the end of the nail but with a bit of pushing and shoving you can have them land where you want them to. Well worth the bit of trouble for the results!

UPDATE!

Since I have the attention span of a flea I had to see just how blinged out I could get this so I added 2 Coats of Kleancolor Chunky Silver. I have to tell you I have not been a fan of silver glitter polishes in the past but this is something else. It almost looks like broken mirror because of the size and reflection of the glitter.

Kleancolor Chunky Copper

I was so excited when I finally got my order of Kleancolors from BeautyJoint that I didn't know where to start, sooo many pretty polishes! I decided that since copper is a kind of Halloweenish color I would start there. I did 2 coats of Chunky Copper over 2 coats of China Glaze Black. Application was a bit tricky, the larger peices of  hex glitter wanted to head to the nail tip with every stroke of the brush so I had to kindof place them where I wanted them. It was a bit thick and I think it could have used a bit of thinner.

Happy Halloween!

I thought I should do something a little special for Halloween this year. I did a simple spiderweb and added a little spider on accent finger. Not my favorite but still cute.

Kleancolor Chunky Holo Black - A Lemming has died...kindof!

I have had lemming for anything flakie since the very first time I Googled nail polish. It started with Sally Hansen Hidden Treasure, it grew with Nubar 2010 and exploded when I first set eyes on Nfu Oh! The way a flakie can take a meh polish and transform it into something so special, so eye catching!
Ok so in hindsight I haven’t killed the lemming but damn I love this polish!

This picture was taken indoors with artificial light.
Not mind blowing but a pretty polish.

But wait…

Kleancolor Chunky Holo Black over China Glaze Black - Outdoors
Kleancolor Chunky Holo Black over China Glaze Black
This was taken outdoors in natural light. Not direct sun. Ta Da!!!

I can’t get over this! There is nothing better than a polish that catches your eye and this is definitely one of those. I keep catching myself looking and I get happy every time. I have lots of polish that I love but a polish like this is rare in my collection.

Indoors it flashed red and copper but as soon as you get outside the light hits it and magic happens. Flashes of gold and green start to show through and it’s like polish in motion! I tried to capture it but was only able to come close.

The application was good although it is very thick and I can see that over time I will most likely need to thin it out. I didn’t have any problems with it been goopy which I have heard from others. I’m thinking of adding a second coat just to see what happens.

So, there is no denying that this is not a flakie (and the lemming lives!) but the way the large hex glitter blends with the small it does a hell of a job impersonating one. I can’t wait to try it over other colors.

The Beginning

About 9 months ago I stumbled on to a video on YouTube titled Growing long nails in a 2 month period by LOVE4NAILS. Not to sound over dramatic it truly did change my life. I have always had fake nails and they have never satisfied my craving. None of them was what I really wanted, long, strong, healthy, beautiful nails that were all mine. Not only did the look of fakes not do it for me but the expense was getting to be too much. I wanted to be able to change polish as often as I wanted dammit! Not have to worry about destroying my mani cause I couldn’t wait to go to the salon! Ok, that’s the end of that rant. I watched this video and thought what the hell I’ll give it a go. I didn’t go running out to buy anything cause let face it, I have no faith. I started out just using plain old olive oil on my nails and cuticles twice a day.
After about two weeks these little nubbins started to grow off the ends of my nails, not much but just enough to say hey this might just work. I went out and bought my first bottle of Vitamin E oil and the first nail polish and top/base coat that didn’t come from a drug store. I must say my first venture into a Sally’s was not my most comfortable moment I felt like a fish out of water. I asked stupid questions and the associates looked at me like I was from Mars but I did walk out with some beautiful China Glaze polish. After another week or so it was time for a decent nail file, after lots of Googling, because at this point I have no clue what it is that I am doing it was back to my local Sally’s to grab a crystal file. I could not believe it I have NAILS!!!
Since that time I no longer wear the nudes and sheers of my past, now…NEONS & GLITTER for me!!!  I have started watching YouTube tutorials for nail art and following Blogs as well as joining the MUA Nail board. I figure since I have these babies I should try and dress them up.
So, what brought me around to thinking I should start a Blog of my own? I have read, learned from and been inspired by so many other Bloggers that I would like the opportunity to do the same. I truly do have a passion for polish that I want to share, it has become my favorite accessory. For years I said that I couldn’t grow my nails, that I couldn’t do my own nail polish neatly let alone nail art. With time patience and more than a few fails I think I am starting to get the hang of it.
